A touch of history…

The Chalet Clermont-Tonnerre, a listed historic monument, is located in the very heart of Vichy, a spa town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is the first of the five chalets built for Emperor Napoleon III and his entourage, set within the parks of Vichy along the banks of the Allier River.

Named Clermont-Tonnerre, the chalet was built in 1863 for Count Aynard de Clermont-Tonnerre (1827–1884), an officer of the Emperor’s household. It was constructed at the same time as the neighboring Villa Marie-Louise, which served as the residence of Emperor Napoleon III.

In the following years, three additional chalets were built along what was then known as Boulevard Napoléon (now Boulevard des États-Unis).

The most distinguished guest of the chalet was Leopold I (1790–1865), the first King of the Belgians, who stayed there in the summer of 1865 to meet Napoleon III.

A Gothic-inspired outbuilding was added to the property in 1905.

Only four owners have succeeded one another over the past 150 years, which explains the remarkable authenticity of the property and the excellent preservation of its floors and ceilings.

Today, we welcome you throughout the year to this place steeped in history, combining comfort, elegance and prestige.

Next to the chalet, an independent house is available for seasonal rental. The pavilion includes a living room with a sofa bed, a kitchen, a bathroom, and an upstairs bedroom with a dressing room.
